Calvin Klein SS 2014 Menswear

If you haven't seen Calvin Klein's SS 2014 collection, I AM HERE TO SHOW YOU THE LIGHT.
Look at the prints! Just look at them! I think the rectangles/windows in the middle really bring the print to the next level; my mom was confused by them. I can't wait for when this collection goes to stores and online because I will definitely be shopping it!

But overall the collection can be broken up into Light and Dark. Calvin Klein is riding the monochrome trend until its death but he's still making it look great. Many of the pieces were offered in both light blue and dark royal blue. I tried to show that with the collages I made.

and Dark....

Do you love the Calvin Klein collection as much as I do? Leave a comment below...

Christopher Kane Menswear Spring 2014

Kane continued his iconic all-over prints for Spring/Summer 2014 and let me tell you they were AMAZING!! This collection showcased a topography-3D net type of print and seeing the print on a large scale is absolutely stunning. (Keep scrolling for that!)

This collection could be broken down into specific trends and that's exactly what I did:

Casual Suiting

All over net print

Pocket Logos

Did you see the sandals too? I thought they were really cute with the outfits. I've tried wearing sandals like the ones featured but I always look like I'm going on a hike so I had to return them to Zara. It was so unfortunate.

What do you think about the collection? Leave a comment

Trend Report: Sunglasses

With SUMMER quickly on its way I wanted to compile a list of sunglasses falling into every price range. After all, what's summer without sunglasses?! I looked at tons of websites, collected so many pictures, and found options for every price range so I hope you enjoy this because it took forever. These were more of a list of glasses I found to be cute and tied into current trends rather than something that tied into runway looks like how I usually do things.

If you want to purchase any of the sunglasses below, click the corresponding number in the caption of the collage and it will direct you to the page.

1     2     3     4     5     6
1     2     3     4     5

I am LIVING for the Prabal Gurung glasses in the last collage (#8)! Aren't they crazy beautiful!?

What are some sunglasses you've purchased lately? Are there any trends you're loving at the moment? Leave a comment

Trend Report: White

White has been my favorite color for awhile but lately I've been getting much more into it. My entire room is white but now I'm working towards obtaining more white clothes and hoping to be able to easily make an outfit any day I want completely based on white. It's quite a goal but I think I can do it.

But besides my neurotic white clothing craving, white has been showing up on runways in the form of clothing and makeup. I put together this blog post to show off the trend of white and to give inspiration for outfits anybody can assemble. This trend could easily have been foreseen from the monochrome trend that's still happening but it's taken on a life of its own.

Look What I Made

First off, I'm sorry about being gone for so long. There was so much school to attend to and I wasn't feeling inspired by my clothes anymore so with those combined, I just didn't ever have time or feel like blogging.

With that being said, recently I was feeling inspired to make something like I used to. I'm one of those people that gets more inspiration from the textiles above anything else. I went to Walmart because I didn't want to spend a lot on something that may or may not turn out and I didn't have a clear direction for it. I went through their selection and was bored by everything but clear vinyl and white tulle (that was way too shiny and looked cheap). So I got 4 yards of vinyl! 2 of them were even half off.

I downloaded the Pete pattern from Burdastyle and it's a free pattern so feel free to download it. I use it every time when I do something that can be based off a shirt pattern. It just makes everything so much easier.

So after a couple hours of measuring, cutting, & sewing, it was done!

It's shorter in the front than in the back and opens in the front, like a vest

I really enjoyed working with vinyl, it was my first time and somehow I always decide to work with complicated fabrics but this tutorial really helped so if you're not familiar with sewing vinyl, have a look.

Have you made anything out of vinyl? Have you made anything recently? What'd you think? Leave a comment.

#OOTD: Rothko Chapel

I took a day trip to Houston with my friends, Robby & Amber, and we went to a bunch of art museums. Mainly, I wanted to go because of Rothko Chapel. It was everything I could've dreamt about and more. You can read more about Rothko Chapel here.

Thrifted cropped sweater, thrifted slack shorts, Maison Martin Margiela for H&M clutch, Dr. Martens shoes

the Broken Obelisk pond

After a refreshing visit to the Chapel, we went to the Menil Collection and this piece was at the beginning of one of the installations. The installation was very boring but this piece was insane.

no photos please

We wondered some more and ended up at the Contemporary Arts Museum; this Andy Warhol sculpture was there!

and then we found a sculpture garden...
that's Amber

This was in the Rice Gallery at Rice University. It was popular company logos repeated, there was a video that went with it. The video felt forced to me but I enjoyed the floor part.

We caught lunch at Nippon, a Japanese sushi restaurant.

Overall, I had a lot of fun and this break was just what I needed. I was getting into a rut so this was a nice breather. I'd love to go back some time, but the drive is so far. It's not something I can just do every weekend; Houston is about 4 hours from where I live in Austin.

If you get the chance to visit the museums and more specifically Rothko Chapel, TAKE THE CHANCE. You won't be disappointed.

Formichetti Leaving Mugler

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
THE APOCALYPSE IS NIGH!!

Mugler announced earlier today that Nicola Formichetti, the Creative Director, was leaving the label.

I know. Take a moment. No more Nicola x Mugler designs.

As you can see from the fact that I named my blog after Nicola, I'm in love with his work and his personality. I know this isn't the end of Formichetti's work, I just really loved the Mugler line and where it seemed to be headed. It's bittersweet because I know this is what's best for him, but I also want more Mugler designs. It's still unsure if the designers, Romain Kremer & Sebastien Peigné, will stay at Mugler after Formichetti's departure. I could tell that he probably wasn't going to stay with the label for very long after his first season where he seemed very burnt out and I just hoped that maybe it was a false observation.

I wanted to commemorate his time at Mugler and look back at highlights:
