Richard Chai Love Spring 2013

 Richard Chai did amazing this season at New York Fashion Week. 

There was floral, sequins, sheer....what else could you ask for?

FLORAL AND SHEER? I'M DYING

This was so cute, I love the repeated cutout is Chai's collection. And maybe I'm just looking too hard, but doesn't the part below the cutout kinda look like a sagging shirt, like a button-up that has the neck hole right below the model's boobs? Does anyone else that? No?

I love that this shirt was made with Rayon. The Rayon's synthetic quality shows all of the creases while giving it a metallic sheen. And it still looks expensive.

I usually hate madras and patchwork patterns but this is just woah. Like, look at it. It's an actually nice patchwork pattern which is apparently difficult for people since there's so much nasty madras.

This particular outfit reminded me of this piece by Bill+Mar, they're both beautiful, I'm just saying.

All I thought with this outfit was "WHAT THE HELL!" This is not cute. Her legs look like green beans. It was all amazing and then this ensemble turned the corner and I was stunned. But not in a "I can't breathe, This is amazing, Where can I buy this?" kind of way. It went "What? Ummm. She looks like a green bean. Nice shoes. But vegetable thighs?"

The print of this dress is what makes it. If you look at it, it's a fairly simple dress but the print just ramps it up into *POW*! It has such an impact and I'm digging that sequined sash action.

THESE SHOES GIVE ME LIFE.

THAT IS ALL THAT CAN BE SAID. 

I would love to own this shirt. It's sequined and it's perfect. Sequins are perfect. I love the computer-board-esque pattern on it. It's killer.

Fashion's Night Out 2012 ~ Austin

My friend, Amber, and I went to the "Fashion's Night Out" event in Austin, TX....I'm jealous of my new-yorker friend (ughhhhhh).

Obviously, it was a lot smaller than ones in the major fashion capitals but I still had a great time. When we got there, we had to search for where it was at. It took place in Barton Creek Square Mall but we didn't where it would be. We wanted to get there super early so that we could be one of the first 200 people and get a "swag bag" but traffic made us get there about 20 minutes late. Fortunately, we were still one of the first 200! And there's more! When we got there we both put our names into a raffle for free microdermabrasion and I won!! It was only 6:30 at that point and we got there at 6:20! Everything happened so fast.

This was the bag and inside it had coupons for the various stores that had events going on too, as well as a nifty water bottle. 

Before we actually did some shopping, we stopped by Starbucks.

We went to Steve Madden and I got these cool socks that I'm actually rocking right now....loving them. BUT, on the flyer for FNO, it said that with any purchase from Steve Madden, you would get a studded iPad case. Now I know the socks were only $1.99 but still. It was a purchase. I asked if I got the case because she never gave it to me and she said, "Oh, it's on purchases of $100 or more." That's not what the flyer says, but I digress. We went to Coldwater Creek afterwards because we didn't know what it was. Apparently, it's a "teacher-fashion" store so we turned right back around. ¡Hasta la vista! Amber and I walked across the way and went to Williams Sonoma but they didn't have samples, so we left. 

All we wanted and could afford was the free food.

THEN, we found the mothership....the creme de la creme.....the epitome of fashion.....the CROCS STORE.

It was almost funny how many ugly things there were in there. I mean, it was everywhere. On the walls. On stands. And apparently Crocs have these things called "Jibbitz" that hook into the top of the shoe. It's like decoration but they're not made very well. The jibbitz below weren't rejects, that's what they all looked like.

And the employees kept hovering around us like hawks. I think they mustn't seen people in there in quite some time....but don't worry, we didn't buy anything. We walked in to take this photo and left right after. I can't be seen in a Crocs store of all things. 

WOOHOO

AND WE'RE GETTING A TOPSHOP/TOPMAN!! It's not a storefront but there's a section of space about 40 ft. x 60 ft. that they're transforming in Nordstrom's. How exciting!!

Glitterati

Austin, Texas is home to an abundance of artists. One of them is Sue Zola.

Her medium of choice isn't paint, or pastels, or clay. She uses something less common in the adult world of art. 

She uses glitter.

What's that I see?

I don't want to call it a trend because that would mean it's a temporary stop in the history of fashion. I guess I could call it a phenomena.

Coloured eyebrows are a phenomena. 

While the idea of changing your eyebrow colour seems new to some people, it's been around much longer than you think and even survives in our generation. It's amazing.

Boy George was always known as being a fashionista/o. In the mid 80's (pictured below), he played around with makeup and coloured his brows! They're a subtle colour, navy blue, but this wasn't the only instance, as I'm sure you'll be able to find. 

More recently, Balenciaga had a show in 2010 with colored eyebrows!! How could you look at the clothing when those eyebrows are there?!?!?!

I love the pastel take on them. CUTE. CUTE. CUTE.

Shopping on South Congress!

Today I was social (GO ME!) and I hung out with my friend, Jack. We went to South Congress Avenue in Austin and I did some shopping. It's like 2 miles away, how cool?! I went to American Apparel and got some shorts I've been eyeing for awhile, I wanted to try them on though so I just waited for me to move to Austin first. It was the longest wait of my life. ANYWHO I got them.

THERE THEY ARE!!! I might wear them to the barbeque tonight so if I do, I'll post a lookbook with them. They're chambray and they're supes cute. Blythe Smith has a pair of these and they're always adorable when he wears them so I wanted a pair too so we could be twinsies! (update: here's the lookbook)

Next, I got this sky blue shirt from American Apparel. This color always goes well with my skin tone but I don't have anything that fits me currently in this colour. So I basically needed it. Right?

Sorry for the ugly background. It's my wardrobe in the dorm. I couldn't think of anything else to hang it on. But the colour is what I wanted to show. It's cute y'all.

After the American Apparel escapade, we went to the thrift store right next door. It's St. Vincent's Thrift Store. Let me tell you, if you live in Austin (or even driving distance) you should go here. They have really cool stuff and it's all really well priced too. So without further promotion of St. VIncent's, here's what I got.

It was only $2!! How could I not get it? I think it's meant to be a belt, but it could totally be worn as a necklace or even some kind of abstract shoulder sling. (update: here's a lookbook with the shorts AND the belt!) The back straps are elastic which is why I think it's a belt but here's me wearing it as a necklace...

CIFF SS13

Copenhagen Fashion Week started today and the first show was the CIFF trends show!! There was a mass load of clothing there and it was quite impressive, they had four different sections of the show with music changes (it was great music too) and all four were very different from each other. The trends they predicted are amazing. Everything from european-dance-kid to business casual to Saudi Arabian to pilgrim. Here we go....

This first outfit was as strong starter, it's like a pink silicone monster face printed on flesh tone mesh dress kind of thing. Can I just say it's 100% amazing? Like look at it. *moment of silence*

I really like this furry vest. It says "POP!" on the back and I thought it was a great piece, it's very colorful and I would absolutely love to own it. It's right on trend.

Crop sweaters for men are definitely going to be all the rage this season! They're mega awesome and I've actually really been wanting one lately, and was going to make it and it just solidifies that I really should just buy one or make one because they're obviously on trend. Also, aren't they kind of sexy or is that just me? I'm not feeling the sweatpants just because I'm partial to jeans. I think jeans would've looked awesome here....or leggings. 

I liked the personality of this piece. I'm really attracted to clothing that has different elements. This shirt is not only sheer but also has a golden-ab-structure-cutout underneath it!! How cool!

Hopefully I'm not the only one who thought this Stepford-wife dress was adorable. The trainers are a bit disconnected but the main part of the outfit, the dress, was gorgeous. And I liked the lime green belt accent. 

Most consumers are scared to mix metallics together and this combo proves it can be done. The metallic mixing was a reoccurring motif in the collection and it made me happy to see that CIFF was being "daring". 

Onto to this jacket. The above blue/white/tan fur bolero jacket just did not work. It made a very loud statement, but it was loud in all the wrong ways. It was too many colors to look good and way too overdone. Don't get me wrong, I love love love weird fashion but this was just not cute. 

I really want a quilted jacket, they're coming back in and I need one now. My only problem: it's smothering hot in Texas. 

This jacket was a bit derivative of Comme Des Garçons' latest collection, with it being oversized, and I was looking forward to things a bit more fashion-forward and predicting trends rather than playing off of trends that have already been shown.

Fuchsia socks (or any other bright colour really) are exciting! I hope this does become "trendy" because I will rock some coloured socks in a hot minute. Regardless of trend. 

Not much to say about this outfit other than, doesn't it look like it could belong in Moonrise Kingdom?

The pace changed up and they started bringing out a series of outfits I didn't really like. At all. So I'm not going to cover them but here's a taste of them....

Here come the pilgrims!

The grey sheer/cashmere number was lovely. Just lovely. The way it flowed was magical and I really just appreciated that piece. 

For some reason I've been really getting in to chunky heels. Here they are again. I'm in ♡.

The CIFF show was undeniably trend-setting and fire hot! They know what they're doing and I can't wait to see next season.
